Greaser, Team USA Finish 3rd In World Amateur Team Championship

Austin Greaser, a senior at the University of North Carolina, finished third in the individual standings and helped lead Team USA to a third-place finish in the 2022 World Amateur Team Championship Saturday near Paris, France.

Greaser shot a 4-under 67 in the fourth and final round today at Le Golf National, site of the 2018 Ryder Cup. The 67 tied the third-lowest round of the day among the 211 players in the 56-team field.

The Vandalia, Ohio, native had seven birdies today and finished the 72 holes at 15-under 271. He was two strokes behind Sweden’s Tobias Jonsson and one back of Japan’s Taiga Semikawa. Jonsson birdied the final hole to secure the win.

Team USA placed third at 27 under par. Italy won the team championship at 31-under 541, a single shot ahead of Sweden. USA was third, Norway fourth at 25 under and Spain was third at -23.

Greaser shot 68-67-69-67, one of only two players to shoot in the 60s in all four rounds (the other was Maximilian Steinlechner of Austria and NC State).

Greaser’s Team USA teammates Michael Thorbjornsen of Stanford tied for 11th at 11-uncer 275 and Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt, the 2022 NCAA champion, tied for 36th at 3-under 283.
