PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – 2022 National Champion and National Golfer of the Year Rose Zhang has played about as well as one could to begin her sophomore campaign. The Irvine, Calif. native set the Pebble Beach Golf Links scoring record on Saturday with a 9-under 63, carding seven birdies, an eagle and 10 pars.
Zhang’s 13-under 131 through two rounds ties Rachel Heck’s 36-hole school record, which was set at the 2022 Gunrock Invitational at Del Paso Country Club.
Through it all, Stanford, at 7-under through two rounds, leads the elite field at the Carmel Cup. The Cardinal holds a nine-stroke lead over second place Texas A&M. The Cardinal’s 5-under 355 round on Saturday was the only team with a below-par round and eight strokes clear of the next best round.
