In their first outing since finishing second at the NCAA Championships last spring, the Arizona State men’s golf team will compete at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate Sept. 9-11 at Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale.
COURSE HISTORY
The Sun Devils will compete at Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale (par 70/7,118 yards) with the tournament hosted by Georgia State. ASU has not competed at the course since it won the 2019 Maui Jim Intercollegiate. They were paced by Cameron Sisk, who took the individual title and as a team, shot (262-271-269=802/-38) over the 72-hole course.

THE SCHOOLS
Arizona State will be joined by 17 schools, including Arizona, UCLA and Washington from the Pac-12. The other 14 schools are Auburn, Clemson, East Tennessee State, Florida State, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, NC State, New Mexico, Oregon, San Diego State, Tennessee, UNLV and Wake Forest.
THE SUN DEVIL LINEUP
The Sun Devils will send Ryggs Johnson, Preston Summerhays, Luke Potter, Josele Ballester and Gabriel Salvanera out for the team competiton. Freshman Michael Mjaaseth and Kiko Coelho will compete in the indivudals tournament, held at Desert Mountain Outlaw Course.
COACHES POLL
ASU was picked fifth in the nation by Golfweek in their Preseason Men’s Team Rankings and were the only Pac-12 school in the top 10.
THE SQUAD
Led by Preston Summerhays, who was recently named to the Haskins Preseason List, freshmen Michael Mjsaaseth and Luke Potter are the only newcomers to the squad. Read about this year’s freshman class here.
SUMMERHAYS EXCELLENCE
Last season, Summerhays was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Marking the third straight year an ASU student-athlete earned the honor. His 71.33 stroke average was the second highest in freshman history for the Sun Devils. He defeated Haskins Award winner Chris Gotterup in the national quarterfinals and had eight total top-10 finishes in 13 tournaments.
BALLESTER RETURNING WITH FORM
Josele Ballester finished last year ranked 54th in Golfstat’s final poll. He was joined by two other Sun Devils, including Summerhays (60) in the top 60 spots. Individually, Ballester was ranked 18th in the nation by Golfweek’s indivudal poll.
JOHNSTON BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER
Johnston posted five top-five finishes in 28 career tournaments and has a 71.54 stroke average…
