Dawgs Finish 34-Under In Season Opener At Frederica Cup

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Mississippi State men’s golf team finished the Frederica Cup in fifth place on Wednesday after shooting 34-under-par and collecting 27 birdies as a team. Four different Bulldogs finished the tournament under par, while three finished within the top 20.

“I am really proud of the guys this week,” head coach Dusty Smith said. “We talked a lot about just going out there and competing hard this week and I felt like we did just that. The guys really bought into playing Mississippi State golf this week, staying disciplined and playing within ourselves. There is plenty that we need to work on to prepare for our next event but this week was a good stepping stone for us. We need to get back to work and continue making the climb in our journey. I thought Ford did a great job this week really playing some big rounds for the team and doing his job at a high level.”

Ford Clegg finished the tournament tied for fourth, making that his 10th top-10 finish in his Mississippi State career. Clegg shot 201 (-15) for the tournament and shot 69 (-3) in the third round. He made seven total birdies, as well as an eagle on the No. 7 tee. He now has 35 career rounds played in the 60s.

Hunter Logan and Harrison Davis both finished the tournament tied for 19th with total scores of 209 (-7) through three rounds. Both players finished each round under par, with each making five birdies in two different rounds.

Garrett Endicott finished tied for 25th at his first collegiate event after shooting 210 (-6). Endicott’s overall tournament score remained at par or better for 53 of 54 holes.

William Wann finished tied for 34th with an even score after three rounds. Ruan Pretorius placed tied for 42nd and finished his first and third rounds even.

The Bulldogs’ next event is set for Sept. 25-27 for the SEC Fall Preview in Birmingham, Alabama, at the Old Overton Club.
