Men’s Golf Announces 2022-23 Schedule, Opens Season with Gopher Invitational


PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 9, 2022) — The Rutgers men’s golf program has announced its schedule for the 2022-23 season and will open with the Gopher Invitational on Sunday at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minnesota.

Rutgers closes the month at the Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Cincinnati, from Sept. 19-20 in Cincinnati, Ohio and the Old Town Club Collegiate from Sept. 26-27 hosted by Wake Forest in Winston-Salem NC.

The Scarlet Knights compete in two tournaments in October, which includes the Marquette Invitational (Oct. 2-3) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 16-17) hosted by Michigan State in Vero Beach, Florida.

The spring portion of the schedule begins with the league’s annual Big Ten Match Play Championship from Feb. 2-4 in Palm Coast Florida, followed by the Dorado Beach Collegiate (Feb. 26-Feb. 28) hosted by UNC Greensboro in Dorado, Puerto Rico.

Thre tournaments take place in March, beginning with the Colleton River Collegiate (March 6-7) hosted by Michigan State in Bluffton, South Carolina, the Sea Island Shootout (March 13) between RU, Penn State & Minnesota in Sea Island, GA. Rutgers will then host the The Johnnie-O at Sea Island (March 13-14) at the same location.

Rutgers competes in two tournaments to close out the spring – Missouri’s Tiger Collegiate Invitational (April 10-11) in Columbia, Missouri and Purdue’s Boilermaker Invitational (April 15-16) in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Scarlet Knights begin postseason play at the 2022 Big Ten Championships, hosted at the famous Pete Dye Course in French Lick.

 

Under head coach Rob Shutte, RU returns five student-athletes from last year’s squad (Luke Wells, Xavier Marcoux, Brendan Hansen, Weston Jones, and Rhett Sellers). Two RU student-athletes landed on the PING All-Region team, including returnee senior captains Luke Wells, and Xavier Marcoux. Last season the roster had 96% of tournament rounds come from the freshman through junior classes with Weston Jones breaking the program record, earning the lowest freshman scoring average in the Golfstat era with an impressive 73.24 scoring average. The program welcomes transfer Noah Kumar as well as an incoming class of two freshman in James Newton and Logan Paczewski.
