Surratt Captures Individual Title at Maui Jim Intercollegiate, Vols Finish Sixth

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Competing in the first tournament of his collegiate career, true freshman Caleb Surratt shot a three-round total of 18-under and claimed the individual title at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate Sunday.

Surratt’s 18-under performance is the best 54-hole score in relation to par in program history. Over the course of the weekend, Surratt made 22 birdies with just two bogeys and one double bogey.

Surratt shot 6-under in round one on Friday, 7-under in round two on Saturday and 5-under on Sunday.

With Surratt’s win, five Vols have now won tournaments under the direction of head coach Brennan Webb. Surratt joins his current teammate Bryce Lewis (2021 Country Club of Birmingham Invitational) and VFLs Spencer Cross (2022 Lewis Chitengwa Memorial), Tyler Johnson (2019 Intercollegiate at the Grove) and Hunter Wolcott (2019 Hayt Invitational) as Vol golfers to capture an individual title during Webb’s time as head coach.

As a team, the 11th-ranked Vols finished sixth, shooting 28-under over three rounds.

Lewis was Tennessee’s second-highest finisher with a three-round total of 2-under. Lewis shot two of three rounds under par to push his career total to 50 rounds of par or better and finished tied for 38th place.

Finishing tied for 44th place, redshirt junior Jake Hall gave Tennessee two counting rounds and finished 1-under for the weekend.

Making his collegiate debut, Lance Simpson also contributed two counting rounds—both of which were par or better. Simpson finished tied for 57th place and 1-over par.

Cade Russell shot under par during each of the first two rounds, but did not contribute a counting round on Sunday. Russell finished tied for 62nd place and 2-over.
