Have you ever wondered who’s the most popular golfer in the United States? In your home state? Jordan Spieth in Texas sounds inevitable, but what about everywhere else?
For obvious reasons, Tiger Woods had to be removed from this conversation. He’s the most popular golfer in every state and we didn’t have to look at statistics to know that, although we did use Google trends data shared with Golfweek and USA Today. We also removed Phil Mickelson because outside of Woods, he’s the unanimous No. 2 (though his popularity has probably plummeted over the last year due to, well, everything).
There are a few surprises on the list, including Tony Finau holding court in his home state of Utah. Unsurprisingly, Rory McIlroy is the people’s champion in over a dozen states.
The world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler also owns a good amount of real estate throughout the country.
