Sophomore Xin (Cindy) Kou tied for 17th while freshman Catherine Park closed with a par 72 to lead the No. 12 USC Women’s Golf team as it finished the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the University of New Mexico G.C. in Albuquerque, N.M. on Tuesday (Sept. 13).
USC, a three-time winner last year, took eighth in the 17-team field at a combined 17-over 881 (293-289-299). Ohio State won the event at 11-under 853.
Kou, who opened up her freshman season last year with four straight top 15s, got off to a solid start with a tie for 17th at 2-over 218 (72-72-74).
Park (74-73-72), in her debut event as a Trojan, joined sophomore Amari Avery (72-71-76) in a tie for 23rd at 3-over 219. Park was 2-under through her first 13 holes before finishing even today.
Junior Christine Wang, playing individually, tied for 42nd at 7-over 223 (77-72-74) while junior Brianna Navarrosa tied for 49th at 9-over 225 (75-73-77). Redshirt senior Malia Nam, in her first action in over a season, tied for 78th at 14-over 230 (78-74-78).
USC returns to action in its second event of the fall slate at the Windy City Collegiate, Oct. 3-4.
