UCLA Finishes Runner-Up at USF Intercollegiate


SAN FRANCISCO – The No. 5-ranked UCLA women’s golf team shot a 4-over 288 in round three to finish even par 858 and runner-up at the USF Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon. Ty Akabane and Caroline Canales were the Bruins’ top scorers, tying for fourth at 3-under for the tournament.
 
No. 8 San Jose State was the only team to shoot an under-par score in the final round, blitzing The Olympic Club course for -10, 274 as a team. Spartan Kajsa Arwefjall shot a -7, 64 in round three to won the individual title at -11 to par.
 
Canales’ pair of 69s in rounds one and three, which tied her career-low single-round score, helped secure the lowest three-round score of her career (-3, 210). The last time Canales shot a sub-70 score was in her very first collegiate round at the 2021 ANNIKA Intercollegiate.
 
Canales’ T-4 spot at the USF Intercollegiate surpassed her former career-best T-5 finish at the 2021 Gold Rush tournament.
 
A 3-over 74 for Akabane sealed a three-round score of 210, marking a career best for the Danville, Calif. native. Akabane also recorded back-to-back 68s to open the tournament which also were single-round bests.
 
Redshirt sophomore Alessia Nobilio recorded 16 pars and two bogeys for a 2-over 73 in her third round to finish 1-over 214 for the tournament and tied for 10th. It was her fourth top 10 finish of her career.
 
Senior Annabel Wilson placed 21st following a 1-over 72 on Monday. Wilson was 5-over for the tournament (69-77-72).
 
Next Up: UCLA will compete at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational from Oct. 3-5 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The event will be broadcasted on Golf Channel.
