Women’s Golf Wraps Up Day 1 at Badger Invitational

VERONA, Wis. (September 18, 2022) – Rutgers women’s golf wrapped up play on day one of the Badger Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

The Scarlet Knights sit in a tie for 8th place in the team standings, while Leigha Devine (t-9) and Maeve Rossi (t-12) lead the way on the individual leaderboard for RU.

Round One – Badger Invitational
University Ridge Golf Course (Verona, WI)
Par 72 – 6,248 yards
Conditions: High 70s, slightly cloudy, winds of 5-10 mph

Devine shot an even-par 72, tallying four birdies — including two on the first two holes — in her opening round and playing her Par 5s at 1-under.

Rossi put forth a strong effort as well, playing a stretch of 16 consecutive holes without a bogey. She used a birdie on the 11th hole to help her wrap up her round with a 1-over 73.

“We got off to a bit of a slow start on the front nine but did well with our scoring opportunities on the back nine,” head coach Kari Williams said. “These green complexes are challenging with lots of ridges and slopes to navigate and it was very important to get the ball into the correct section of the green. Leigha and Maeve were steady out there and played well to pace the team today. Experience on this course is important and everyone learned something from today’s round that will help us come out ready to climb the leaderboard tomorrow.”

“I felt confident from the first tee shot this morning and was excited to be back competing with the team,” Devine said. “Today’s round had lots of good shots with a few mishits, but I took away a lot of good information to apply during tomorrow’s round. This course is in great condition with greens that roll well and we’re all excited to see what we can capitalize on tomorrow.”

The Scarlet Knights tee off for round two of the Badger Invitational at 10 a.m. ET on Monday, playing with Delaware and hosts Wisconsin.
