Husky Invitational Suspended Due to Darkness, Blue Devils in Eighth


BREMERTON, Wash. – After finishing their 36 holes of play on Monday, the Duke men’s golf team sit in eighth place at the Husky Invitational. Play was suspended due to darkness with four teams set to finish their second round on Tuesday morning. Bolstered by strong play from William Love in just his second tournament for Duke, the Blue Devils turned in team scores of 295 (+7) and 291 (+3).

At the Husky Individual, John Peters shot a career-best 67 in the second round to move into a tie for second place (-4).

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: ROUND 1

  • Duke finished with a team score of 295 (+7) in the first 18 holes of play.
  • William Love made the turn at one-over 37 and proceeded to make four birdies in his final eight holes en route to leading the Blue Devils in the first round with a one-under 71.
  • Love’s strong finish to his first 18 holes of play placed him in a tie for tie for fifth place overall.
  • Fellow freshman Ethan Evans made his first appearance in the starting lineup as a Blue Devil and shot a 1-over 73, complimented by two birdies in his last four holes.
  • After teeing off on the 10th hole, Kelly Chinn surged early on in his round by pouring in three birdies in a row on holes 13 through 15. The sophomore went on to finish the first round with a one-over 73.
  • Also for Duke, juniors Ian Siebers (+6) and Jimmy Zheng (+9) ended their round in a tie for 65th and 74th place respectively.
  • In the Individual Invitational, sophomore Luke Sample fired a two-under 69 in his first round on the Cascade Course at Gold Mountain to start the second round in a tie for second place. Fellow sophomore John Peters shot an even-par 71, good for a tie in eighth place.
  • Daniel Choi (+2), Daniel Uranga (+6) and Cameron Martinez-Piedra (+8) rounded out the first-round individual efforts for the Blue Devils.

HOW IT HAPPENED: ROUND 2

  • The Blue Devils carded a 291 (+3) in their second round of the day.
  • Love continued his consistent play as the day progressed, playing to even-par 36 as he made the turn. The Atlanta, Ga. native rolled in two birdies in his final nine holes of the day en route to finishing off a second-round 71 (-1)…
