Two Alabama Golfers Shoot Under Par to Lead the Crimson Tide in the Second Round at the Mason Rudolph Championship


FRANKLIN, Tenn. – A pair of Alabama women’s golfers shot under par to lead the Crimson Tide during Saturday’s second round of the Mason Rudolph Championship. As a team, the Tide improved five shots from Friday’s opening round 297 with a 292 in round two to end the day in 11th overall with a 36-hole total of 13-over par 589.

Benedetta Moresco led the charge with a 2-under par 70, a season-best total. Her round was highlighted by an eagle on the 477-yard par 5 fourth hole. Moresco (75-70) is tied with teammate Kynadie Adams (71-74) for 23rd overall to lead UA with both players carding a 1-over 145 after 36 holes.

Meanwhile, Sarah Edwards also had her season-best performance with a 1-under 71 on Saturday to give the Crimson Tide two players under par in the second round. She will enter the third and final round in a tie for 31st and two shots behind her teammates with a 147 (76-71).

The tournament, which is the second of four events this fall for the Crimson Tide, is being contested on the par 72, 6,449-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club – North Course.

Highlights

  • Moresco had two birdies and two bogeys to go along with her eagle in round two which marked her 31st career round of par or better to lead all UA golfers
  • Adams followed her season-best round of 1-under par Friday with a 2-over Saturday to end the day in a tie with Moresco for 23rd
  • Edwards gives the Tide three golfers among the top 35 in the event, with her five shot improvement matching Moresco for the biggest jump from the first to the second round
  • Taylor Kehoe is in 66th with a 154 (75-79), while Isabella van der Biest rounds out the Crimson Tide golfers in a tie for 72nd with a 157 (80-77)
  • Edwards and Adams are tied for the team lead with six birdies apiece
  • Moresco’s 27 pars are tied for the fourth-most across 36 holes played

The Field

  • No. 26 Vanderbilt (-18, 558) holds a two-shot advantage over No. 23 Arizona (-16, 560) heading into the final round of play
  • No. 30 Mississippi State (-12, 564) is in third, followed by No. 13 Auburn (+2, 578) in fourth and No. 8 LSU and Chattanooga (+3, 579) tied for fifth
  • The field consists of 14 teams, including six ranked in the nation’s top 25

    • In addition to No. 17 Alabama, other ranked teams include No. 8 LSU, No. 13 Auburn, No. 19 Georgia, No. 23 Arizona, No. 25 Kentucky, No. 26 Vanderbilt, No. 28 Ohio State and No. 30 Mississippi
