Low Rounds from Debove and DuBois Highlight Day One of SEC Match Play

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. – Low rounds from Quentin Debove and John DuBois highlighted day one of the SEC Match Play for the Florida men’s golf team on Sunday.

All 14 SEC schools competed at Old Overton Golf Club with Florida ending 9-under on the day with a round one of 277 (-3) and round two of 274 (-6) to place T9. Vanderbilt leads the field at 32-under.

Debove started things off with a round one score of 66 (-4), one away from tying his previous career-low he set in the season opener this year. He was 5-under through the front nine with an eagle on nine (par-4, 453 yards). The junior posted a 68 (-2) in his second round to end 6-under in T9. On the front nine, Debove is a combined 9-under.

A stroke behind Debove is DuBois (-5), who shot a second round of 64 (-6). The mark tied his career low he set in the first round of the SEC Championship last season. The score tied for second best by a senior in program history and one away from tying the record. Tyson Alexander, who earned his PGA Tour Card this year, was the last Gator senior to have 64 in 2010. In DuBois’ second round he recorded five straight birdies on holes 12-16 and is tied for 14th.

Having both a 70 (E) in round one and 71 (+1) in round two was both Fred Biondi and Ricky Castillo to sit T44. Biondi had an eagle twice on 16, a par-5 of 539 yards.

Making his collegiate debut, Parker Bell (T67) was in the No. 5 spot in the lineup. He bounced back after a round one of 76 (+6) with a 71 (+1) in his next 18, shooting -1 on the front.

The Gators tee of the final round of stroke play tomorrow at 10:20 a.m. ET. Following stroke play, the top two finishers will square off in the final groupings on Tuesday while the 12 other teams will square off in East vs. West match play format.
