Habgood Tied for Second at the End of Day One of the GOLFWEEK Red Sky Classic


WOLCOTT, Colo. – Washington State women’s golfer Darcy Habgood set her personal-best single-round score to kick off the 2022 GOLFWEEK Red Sky Classic, as the fifth-year senior carded 4-under; 68 to end Monday’s first round in a tie for second place on the player leaderboard.

Habgood collected a total of four birdies through her first 18 holes of play on the Fazio Course at the Red Sky Golf Club. The Nambucca Heads, Australia native caught fire on the back nine, as she carded 3-under over her final nine holes. Habgood capped off her career-best round by carding back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th. The fifth-year senior wrapped up the first round leading the field in pars with 15 total, while she is tied for the second-best par-4 score at 2-under.

As a unit, Washington State concluded the first round of the 2022 GOLFWEEK Red Sky Classic in eighth place on the team leaderboard after the Cougars shot 2-over; 290. WSU posted the second-best par-4 team score out of the 20 teams in the field, as the Cougs finished the opening round carding 2-over on par-4 holes. Washington State also carded 57 pars as a team in the first round, just two shy of Pepperdine for the tournament lead.

Senior Jiye Ham carded 1-over; 73 in the first round to end her day tied for 27th, meanwhile sophomore Sarah Skovgaard-Bils will open Tuesday’s second round in a tie for 45th. In her first go-around at the Fazio Course, Skovgaard-Blis carded 3-under on her back nine to finish out the first day 2-over; 74.

Pepperdine sits at the top of the leaderboard after 18-holes of play at the 2022 GOLFWEEK Red Sky Classic. The Waves shot 5-under; 285 in the first round. Pepperdine’s Lauren Gomez leads the field at the end of the first round, as she shot 5-under; 67, just one stroke ahead of Habgood.

The second round of the 2022 GOLFWEEK Red Sky Classic gets underway Tuesday, Sept. 27 with Washington State teeing off at 9:50 a.m. PT. Fans can follow all the action at GolfStat.com.
