After a long day of weather delays and an unfortunate disqualification, the Washington men’s golf team finds itself in 15th place at the Inverness Intercollegiate, with the second round suspended with all teams still on the course.
The tournament resumes with the completion of round two and then round three Tuesday morning. There were multiple stoppages of play on Tuesday, prior to the eventual decision to stop for the night.
UW freshman Joshua Koo was disqualified for the first round after taking a shot after the horn had been sounded, suspending play due to dangerous weather. At the time, Koo had the Huskies’ low score, but his disqualification meant that UW had to count it four highest scores, rather than four lowest.
“It was a tough day for the Huskies,” said head coach Alan Murray. “Tough conditions on a hard golf course, but overall we just weren’t good enough today. We had an unfortunate incident in round one, with Josh getting DQ’ed for playing after a horn had stopped play for inclement weather, and he was our best score at that point.”
Round 2 was a little better for us but we didn’t get to finish so hopefully we can take advantage of the stop in play… regroup and try get some positive momentum to finish out round 2 and have a good final round
In the end, the Huskies finished the first round with a 19-over 303.
Round two was suspended with all teams still playing and with numerous holes completed, but not yet scored on the live statistics page, rendering the current scoring incomplete.
Teddy Lin and Robert Galligan turned in round of 3-over 74s in the first round to lead the other four golfers. Bo Peng was one stroke back, with a 75 in the first round.
“Robert Galligan battled really well for a 3-over round, along with Teddy,” Murray noted.
Play resumes at 6:45 a.m. PT Tuesday morning.
