Alabama Defeats Georgia on Final Day of SEC Match Play Hosted by Jerry Pate


VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. – The Alabama men’s golf team ended SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate on a high note with a 3-2 defeat over Georgia during Tuesday’s match play portion of the event. The Crimson Tide had wins from JP Cave, Canon Claycomb and Nick Dunlap to earn the victory.

Claycomb secured the victory with a chip-in on No. 16 to give the Tide its third point of the match. It marked the second consecutive year that Alabama has won its final match in the tournament on a chip in, with Jones Free holing one out last year versus Florida.

The Highlights

  • Claycomb’s chip in capped a 3&2 victory over and gave the Tide its clinching point

    • He now owns a 5-2-1 record in career head-to-head matches

  • Dunlap won his first career collegiate match play contest with a 5&3 win over Caleb Manuel
  • JP Cave claimed a 3up win over Buck Brumlow to improve to 5-3-0 in his match play career
  • Tyler Lipscomb (5&4 vs. Nick Cassidy) and Thomas Ponder (1up vs. Ben Van Wyk) each fell in their respective match
