Clemson Finishes 9th at Folds of Honor Collegiate – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

Clemson, SC—Zack Gordon shot a three-under-par 69 on Wednesday to  lead Clemson in the final round of the first Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Michigan.    Clemson finished ninth in the 18-team tournament, the first appearance at a college golf tournament in the state of Michigan in Clemson history

Gordon’s round included four birdies and just one bogey, as his only blemish came on the par three seventh hole on the course, his 16th hole of the day on the par 72 course that was designed by Jack Nicklaus.  

Gordon improved his place in the  individual standings by 20 positions, the biggest improvement on Wednesday among the 90 players in the field.    It was Gordon’s 17th career round in the 60s, his second this year.   The  Super Senior from  Gaffney, SC finished in a tie for 14th place with a 54-hole score of 219.

Kian Rose had a third round even par 72 to also finish in a tie for 14th place in the tournament with a score of 219.  He led the Tigers in birdies for the week with nine and finished third in the field of 90 players in par four scoring at 4.00.   Rose has now scored par or better in four of his six rounds so far this season.

Jonathan Nielson was Clemson’s third best player on Wednesday and the third best Tiger for the week.  He had a three-over par 75 on Wednesday and finished with a 54-hole score of 223, seven over par, to finish 28th.  Nielsen had an opening round even-par 72 to highlight his seek.    He was Clemson’s best player on par five holes with a 4.83 average.

Carter Pendley had a second straight 76 on Wednesday to finish at 229 for his 54 holes.  He was second on team in birdies for the 54 holes with eight.  Andrew Swanson had a 77 on Wednesday to finish at 232.   He had the highlight shot of the week with a hole-in-one during his second round  on Tuesday, just the eighth ace  in Clemson men’s golf history.

Clemson returns to the course in just a week as the Tigers will compete in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Johnson, Arkansas Oct. 3-5.   That tournament will be televised  by The Golf Channel.
