UCLA Finishes 10th at Folds of Honor


GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Freshman Kyle An recorded the first top-20 finish of his career as he tied for 19th (+4, 220) to lead the UCLA men’s golf team at the Folds of Honor Collegiate on Wednesday.
 
As a team, the Bruins shot a 299 and 291 in the final two rounds at American Dunes Golf Course to place 10th at 35-over in the 18-team field.
 
An shot a 3-under 69 with six birdies, including three in a row on the 17th, 18th and first holes, in his second round on Tuesday. An ended the tournament with a 2-over 74 today.
 
Illinois was crowned champion at the inaugural event, finishing as the only team under par at -10, 854 and 15 strokes ahead of runner-up Arizona. The Fighting Illini had four players within the top 11, including two tied for third at 4-under.
 
Liberty’s Jonathan Yaun was the tournament medalist thanks to a chip in birdie on the second playoff hole.
 
Tying for 28th three strokes back of An was Pablo Ereño who shot an even-par 72 with four birdies in round two and a 2-over 74 in round three.
 
Freshman Lincoln Melcher’s 3-over 75 third round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 second hole. Melcher tied for 52nd at 15-over to par in the 89-man field.
 
Sophomore Evan Chien tied for 62nd at 19-over.
 
Next Up: UCLA has a five-day turnaround before its next event at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, beginning Monday, Oct. 3 and ending Wednesday, Oct. 5. The event will be televised on the Golf Channel.
