HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. – With play suspended due to darkness, preventing the first two rounds from being completed, Purdue Women’s Golf sits in ninth place after day one of the Windy City Collegiate Classic.
Purdue ended the day at 26-over par with a few holes to play, one shot ahead of No. 5 Texas (+27) and six strokes in front of No. 12 Florida (+32). The Boilermakers also found themselves above Big Ten foes Northwestern (+33) and Michigan State (+39) on the leaderboard.
Ashley Kozlowski paced the Boilermakers, playing 33 holes in 3-over par to put her in a tie for seventh individually. The junior matched Momo Sugiyama for Purdue’s lowest opening rounds with a 75 (+3), and she was even par through 15 holes when the second round was suspended for the evening. Kozlowski made two birdies and two bogeys to make the turn at even before draining an eagle putt at the par-5 first, the first eagle of the season by a Boilermaker.
Along with her first round 75, Sugiyama was 2-over with three holes left in round two. At 5-over, the Hawaii transfer sits in 19th place. Two strokes behind Sugiyama, senior Danielle du Toit is tied for 32nd. A pair of double bogeys prevented du Toit from going low in the opening round. After starting out 3-over for her first three holes, she got back on track with three consecutive pars before rattling off three birdies in-a-row. The birdies on holes 16-18 pushed du Toit back to level par in the opening round, but she closed for a 76 (+4).
Purdue wraps up the Windy City Collegiate Classic Tuesday morning (Oct. 4). The Boilermakers are one of six teams that are set to finish their second round at 8:30 a.m. ET Tuesday morning before starting the final round at Exmoor Country Club.
