Nyfjäll, 'Cats Finish Top-2 at Marquette Intercollegiate

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – Senior David Nyfjall fired back-to-back 69’s at Milwaukee Country Club to finish runner-up at the 2022 Marquette Intercollegiate, leading Northwestern to a runner-up team result.

RESULTS –  2022 Marquette Intercollegiate

Carrying the tailwind of last week’s 2022 Windon Memorial title, the ‘Cats placed all five scoring golfers in the five-count-four format in the Top-30, and three in the Top-16. Nyfjall (70-69-69: 208, -2) was steady all weekend, leading the field with 40 pars over 54 holes while finishing as the only player in the 84-man field to sign three scorecards at-or-below par. The Uppsala native and 2022 Big Ten Champion has now shot under-par in four of his last five competitive rounds and posted back-to-back Top-4 finishes.

James Imai (73-71-71: 215, +5), who fired a 5-under 65 in the final round of the Windon, was strong again over a tournament’s final 18 holes shooting his second-straight 71 to finish T16 with teammate Chris Zhang (71-71-73: 205, +5).

Daniel Svard, competing as an individual, holed five birdies in Tuesday’s final round to card a 2-under 28 and to surge 16 places up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for sixth.

The Marquette Intercollegiate concluded the ‘Cats Midwestern portion of the fall schedule, as they will next head to Florida on October 16 for the Quail Valley Collegiate before wrapping up the fall slate on Halloween in Carmel By The Sea, California, at the Cal Poly Invitational.
