HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. – Arizona Women’s Golf ended their week at the Windy City Classic on a high note, shooting 4-under as a team after the turn for its best nine-hole stretch of golf. Freshman Julia Misemer was 1-under on the final nine holes and finished the week as Arizona’s best score at 8-over and in a tie for 24th. The Wildcats ended their week in Illinois in a tie for ninth at 35-over par.
“We did not play our best golf to end the second round or to begin the third round, which is a learning opportunity for us,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “Playing 36 holes in a day is not something we have a ton of experience with, but I felt like this tournament was a good chance for us to go through it and grow. I was very proud of how well we played in the afternoon today as our team showed a great competitive spirit until the very end. We will take a lot from this tournament and build on it moving forward.”
Sophomore Carolina Melgrati carded the team’s best score in the third round at 1-over par that included a stretch of three birdies in four holes. Melgrati’s performance on Tuesday rivaled senior Gile Bite Starkute for the best Wildcat round of the tournament after Starkute’s opening round of even par.
Arizona will return to action for its third tournament of the fall in two weeks. The Wildcats will participate in the Marilynn Smith Invitational, hosted by Kansas, beginning on Monday, Oct. 17.
