MEDINAH, Ill. – The Illinois women’s golf team opened the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah in eighth place after carding a 36-hole team total of 563 (-10) heading into Tuesday’s final round at Medinah Country Club.

Crystal Wang ended the day tied for second place at 10-under, just one shot back of the individual lead, after firing back-to-back rounds of 67. She has posted five rounds under 70 through the first eight rounds of the season. The Diamond Bar, Calif., native, totaled 11 birdies and just one bogey in the first 36 holes of the tournament. Wang also paced the field by recording an overall score of three-under on par 3s.

Isabel Sy also finds herself in the Top 20, ending the day all alone in 16th, after posting rounds of 70 (-2) and 68 (-4). Sy recorded five-straight birdies on the front nine to begin round two and then went bogey-free on the back to close out the day. Her 28 pars rank fourth-most among the field.

Siyan Chen fired back-to-back even-par rounds of 72 to end the day tied for 40th. Alise Knudson shot an opening round 76 (+4) and a second round 74 (+2), placing tied for 73rd. Lexanne Halama is 78th after bouncing back from an opening round 81 (+9) with a second round 71 (-1), which featured a stretch of four birdies in six holes.

The Illini also carried three golfers competing individually. Sophia Sulkar is tied for 73rd at six-over after two rounds of 75 (+3). Mattie Frick is tied for 76th after rounds of 77 (+5) and 74 (+2). Anna Ritter is tied for 79th after rounds of 75 (+3) and 78 (+6). Both Sulkar and Ritter completed the first two rounds of their collegiate careers.

San Diego State leads the tournament after posting a total of 551 (-25) and Alabama’s Sarah Edwards leads all individuals after a two-round total of 133 (-11).

Tuesday’s second round begins with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. CT.
