Three Tar Heels Win In Ivy Intercollegiate Match Play


Senior Kayla Smith and freshmen Vilde Nystrøm and Megan Streicher won their individual matches to lead the Atlantic Coast Conference to a 20.5 to 9.5 win over the Ivy League Tuesday at the Baltusrol Golf Club.
 
Smith defeated Princeton’s Tiffany Kong 4 up, Nystrøm edged Penn’s Bridget O’Keefe 2 up and Streicher beat Yale’s Mia Sessa 3 up.
 
Riley Quartermain earned half a point for the ACC by drawing her match against Dartmouth’s Sophie Thai.
 
Krista Junkkari, who was co-medalist in Monday’s stroke play, lost 3 up to Princeton’s Yanjun Liu.
 
Carolina won its first team title of the season Monday, defeating five other ACC and six Ivy League teams in 36 holes of stroke play.
 
The Tar Heels return to competition Oct. 17-18 when they host the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational at the Governor’s Club.
