Sekne Garners 5th Big Ten Golfer of the Week Award


WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue junior golfer Herman Sekne was selected as the Big Ten Male Golfer of the Week after finishing second at the Purdue Fall Invitational held at the Kampen Course.

The award was the fifth career Big Ten Golfer of the Week award for Sekne, the most in school history and tied for the fifth most in Big Ten history.

Sekne totaled a 54-hole tally of 4-under par 212 (70-69-73) to finish in second play, placing behind Tennessee’s Bryce Lewis in the medalist race at the Purdue Fall Invitational. Sekne has played in three events this fall, placing in the top 10 in all three events (T-9 at Marquette; T-6 at Inverness; 2 at Purdue). Over his last 11 events dating to last year, Sekne has eight top-10 finishes.

Sekne, who is currently ranked No. 44 in the initial Golfstat rankings, owns a 71.00 stroke average in nine rounds this season. He has posted three rounds in the 60s and four rounds of even-par or better. For his career, Sekne is the school’s career strokes average leader at 72.17 strokes and of his 60 career rounds, 26 of them have been even-par or better. He has played in 20 career events and has placed in the top 10 in nine of them.

Sekne and his teammates will close out the fall season on Oct. 23 through 25 at the Isleworth Collegiate in Windermere, Florida.
