Women's Golf travels to the Midwest for the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational


LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Washington State women’s golf team is looking to build off their back-to-back top-five team finishes as the Cougars heads to the Midwest for the 2022 Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Lawrence, Kansas. The two-day tournament will be played at the Lawrence Country Club with the first two rounds taking place Monday, Oct. 17, and the final round set for Tuesday, Oct. 18.

The Course and Format

The Cougars will be playing in the inaugural Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, as the University of Kansas will serve as host. The tournament will be played at the Lawrence Country Club, a 6,125-yard course that plays as a par-72. Tee times for each day will start at 7:00 a.m. PT shotgun-start.

“We have a couple of Pac-12 teams that are going to be up there: Arizona, for example. So we are looking forward to getting into a stronger field and a really good tournament. We are also going to play 36, 18, which is new for this fall.”

The Field

Along with Washington State, the Sunflower Invitational will feature Arizona, Boston College, BYU, Iowa, Kansas, Kent State, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Notre Dame, Sam Houston State, Tulane, Texas San Antonio, and Wisconsin.

Last Time Out

The Cougars posted their second consecutive top-five team finish, as WSU rounded out the 2022 GOLFWEEK Red Sky Classic in a tie for fifth with a team score of 878 (+14). Fifth-year senior Darcy Habgood carded a career-best 4-under; 68 during the tournament’s first round and went on to finish in a tie for fourth place after she shot 3-under; 213. Habgood’s fourth-place finish at the Red Sky Classic marks a career-best finish for the Australian native, while it is her second career top-five finish as a Cougar.
