CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 1 Wake Forest women’s golf team will be defending their title from October 2021 this week at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invite in Chapel Hill, hosted by North Carolina.
Wake Forest swept the event last year, with the team taking home the title and Rachel Kuehn taking home the individual title. Kuehn shot even-par 72 today and finished the 54-hole event at 11-under 205 (70-63-72), which tied the third-lowest total in tournament history. The junior from Asheville set the women’s course record, Wake Forest’s 18-hole record and the tournament single-round record with a bogey-free, 9-under-par 63 in the second round.
Most recently, the Deacs finished first in stroke play and second in match play at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup in Juno Beach, Florida. Kuehn won her fifth collegiate individual title during the stroke play portion of the event. Two other Deacs also finished inside the top 10, with sophomore Carolina Chacarra coming in tied for third and senior Lauren Walsh coming in tied for eighth. Both finished under par at -5 and -3, respectively.
Wake Forest led the field in scoring on par three and par four holes and also led the seven-team field in birdies with 58 over 54 holes. Kuehn led all players on scoring for par fours and Walsh led scoring on par threes.
