West Point, Miss. – The Missouri women’s golf team moved up two spots during the final round of The Ally, hosted by Mississippi State, on Tuesday – finishing seventh of 11 schools at the tournament.
In a field that featured four schools ranked in the top 50 and two in the top 10, two Tigers finished among the top 20 golfers during the tournament. Freshman Melanie Walker led MU during the tournament and the final 18 holes, shooting a one-under 71 in the final round behind five birdies in addition to an eagle three on the second hole. Overall, the rookie placed 13th with a 54-hole total of 221.
Graduate Sky Sload joined Walker in the top 20, placing 17th overall with a final tally of 223. Sload also saved her best round for the final 18 holes with her even-par 72 featuring two birdies and only two bogeys on the card.
Emily Staples was third on the team with a final score of 233, while Olivia Sowers (237) and Sophia Yoemans (239) rounding out the Tigers’ performance.
Mizzou is back in action next weekend, opening play at the Jim West Challenge in Texas on Sunday.
