Chinn Tied For Fifth, Duke in 12th After Second Round in Georgia


ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Duke men’s golf was led at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate by Kelly Chinn for the second day in a row, after the sophomore’s second consecutive 3-under 69. Duke enters the final round in 12th place as a team.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Duke finished the second round with a team score of 289 (+1).
  • After starting the second round in a tie for 12th, Kelly Chinn followed up his 3-under on Friday with another 3-under 69 on Saturday. The sophomore began his round on the 10th hole and shot an even-par 36 on the back nine. Chinn birdied holes 1, 2, 8 and 9 with only one bogey on the front nine to secure his second consecutive round in the 60s and will start the final round in a tie for fifth-place tomorrow morning.
  • Ian Siebers entered Saturday at even-par and made a move into red numbers during the second 18 holes of play. Three birdies in four holes helped the junior make the turn with a 1-under 35, and a consistent, bogey-free, second half of the round finished with Siebers carding a 2-under 70.
  • Freshman Ethan Evans rolled in four birdies in his first nine holes and finished the day with a 2-over 74.
  • Evans’ classmate, William Love, rounded out the team scoring for Duke with his 4-over 76 in the second round.
  • Also for Duke, Luke Sample carded a 6-over 78 on Saturday.

NOTES

  • Kelly Chinn carded back-to-back rounds in the 60s for the first time since the second and third rounds of the Valspar Collegiate in the spring of 2022 (68, 65).
  • Chinn has been the fifth-best individual scorer on par-3’s and par-4’s this weekend, with an average score of 2.75 and 3.75, respectively.
  • Ian Siebers played his final 13 holes at 4-under-par and bogey free.
  • The Blue Devils continued to be the second-best team of the weekend for scoring average on par-3’s (3.05).

UP NEXT

  • Duke will play its final round on Sunday. The Blue Devils are scheduled to begin play on the 10th hole, starting at 9:20 a.m.
