East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s men’s golf team shot a 21-over par 309 on Saturday and is in eighth place among 10 teams after the second round of play at The Williams Cup, being hosted by North Carolina at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C.
The tournament, named in honor of former UNC men’s basketball coach Roy Williams, concludes on Sunday.
The Spartans will tee off at 8:30 a.m., playing alongside Charlotte and Iowa.
Host North Carolina (No. 8 per Golfstat) shot an even par 288 and leads the field at 1-under par 575. UNCW is in second place at 13-over par 589, with NC State third at 14-over 590 and Houston and Louisville are tied for fourth place at 20-over par 596.
The Spartans are in eighth place at 31-over par 607.
Senior Drew Hackett was tied for the individual lead entering the second round, but shot a 3-over par 75 and is now tied for sixth place at 1-over 145.
Junior August Meekhof and fifth year Troy Taylor II are tied for 23rd place at 7-over par 151. Meekhof posted a 6-over par 78 after a 1-over par 73 on Friday. Taylor had the best round of the day for the Spartans, a 1-over par 73.
Sophomore Ashton McCulloch shot an 11-over par 83 and is in 56th place at 22-over par 166 and senior Bradley Smithson is tied for 57th place at 23-over par 167.
Sophomore Satchel Pierce, playing as an individual, shot a 2-over par 74 and is tied for 39th place at 12-over par 156.
