Cats Go Low After Turn to Open Isleworth Collegiate

WINDERMERE, Fla. – Behind a blistering low performance on the back nine on Sunday, No. 24 Arizona Men’s Golf settled into a tie for sixth in the first round of the Isleworth Collegiate. The best four rounds of the day for Arizona were an impressive 9-under par after the turn following a 13-over par showing on the front. Senior Chase Sienkiewicz went 4-under par on the back nine to finish his opening day in a tie for 10th at 2-under.

“I was really proud of how our team responded to a slow start in the morning,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “We were really locked in as a team in the afternoon, which sets us up for another big day tomorrow in the second round. I look forward to seeing us card more low scores tomorrow, especially with some key adjustments on the front nine.”

The Wildcats’ 22-stroke difference after the turn on Sunday gave them the best back nine score out of the entire 15-team field.

Behind Sienkiewicz on the leaderboards is Sam Sommerhauser who enters Monday’s second round at 2-over in a tie for 23rd place after sinking three birdies and six pars on the back nine on Sunday. Freshman Zach Pollo sits one stroke behind Sommerhauser to give Arizona a third top-30 finisher for the opening round.

Arizona is part of a nine-team pack separated by seven strokes on the leaderboards after one round, chasing Auburn who leads the field at 15-under.
