WINDERMERE, Fla. – Javier Barcos owns his team’s top score at 3-over and the University of Utah men’s golf team is 19-over at the end of the one round of play at the Isleworth Collegiate, which began with 18 holes on Sunday at the Isleworth Country Club.
“It was a long day for us,” said coach Garrett Clegg. “Hopefully we can battle back from today with a strong round tomorrow.”
Barcos’ day, which began on the back nine, got off to a difficult start, as he recorded two early bogeys, but the junior regained his footing and was just 1-over through his final 15 holes. Included in that stretch was a birdie on the 17th and a streak of six consecutive pars to wrap up his day. Barcos will head into the second round tied for 37th.
Just one stroke behind Barcos is Tanner Telford in a tie for 44th. Telford started his day by shooting 1-over on the back nine, then he rebounded from a rough start to the front nine by knocking in a pair of birdies over his final five holes, finishing at 4-over.
Braxton Watts entered the clubhouse at 5-over and sharing 50th, while Martín León, who tied for the team lead with 13 pars, is 7-over and even with four competitors in 62nd. Hunter Howe is tied for 75th and Utah’s team score has them in 13th.
