East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s men’s golf team shot a 10-over par 298 in the final round and finished in sixth place among 10 teams at The Williams Cup, hosted by North Carolina at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C.
The Spartans entered the final round in eighth place, but bounced back in the final round and moved up two spots, finishing in sixth place at 41-over par 905.
Host North Carolina won the tournament with a 3-over par 867, 12 shots ahead of second place UNCW (15-over par 879). NC State finished in third (31-over par 895), with Houston fourth (33-over par 897) and Louisville rounded out the top-five teams (37-over par 901).
Senior Drew Hackett shot a 1-under par in Sunday’s final round and finished in fourth place overall at even-par 216 (70-75-71). Hackett posted five birdies during the round, all on the front nine.
Fifth year Troy Taylor II finished in a tie for 16th place at 8-over par 224 (78-73-73). He posted a 1-over par 73 in Sunday’s round.
Junior August Meekhof tied for 33rd place at 17-over par 233 (73-78-82), closing with a 10-over par 82 on Sunday.
Sophomore Ashton McCulloch had his best round of the weekend on Sunday with a 4-over par 76 and tied for 51st place at 26-over par 242 (83-83-76).
Senior Bradley Smithson finished in a tie for 54th place at 29-over par 245 (77-90-78), carding a 6-over par 78 on Sunday.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Satchel Pierce finished in 48th place at 23-over par 239 (82-74-83).
Michigan State closes out its fall schedule at the Cal Poly Collegiate, being held at The Preserve in Carmel, Calif. on Monday, Oct. 31 and Tuesday, Nov. 1.
