Ford, Greaser Named To Haskins Award Watch List

University of North Carolina sophomore David Ford and senior Austin Greaser are among 20 collegiate men’s golfers named to the Final Fall Haskins Award Watch List, announced today by Golfweek and the Golf Channel.

The Haskins Award presented by Stifel has been given to the top golfer in the country for the past 52 seasons. It is the oldest individual award in college golf and is voted on by players, coaches, SIDs and select media.

Greaser and Ford are currently No. 5 and No. 8 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

Ford was the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, a third-team All-America (Golfweek) and tied for fifth in the NCAA Championship. This season, the Peachtree Corners, Ga., native won his first collegiate tournament, shooting 16-under 200 that included a second-round 62 at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup at Seminole Golf Club. He also has two second-place finishes (at Notre Dame and the Williams Cup at Eagle Point) and a sixth at the Ben Hogan Invitational at Colonial. He leads UNC in scoring at 69.40 strokes per round.

Greaser is a two-time honorable mention All-America and two-time All-ACC honoree. The Vandalia, Ohio, native is Carolina’s all-time leader in stroke average (71.28) and is a two-time collegiate medalist. As a junior, he won the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational and the NCAA Yale Regional. This season, Greaser tied for third at the Hogan Invitational and tied for fourth at the Stephens Cup. In August, he led the United States to a third-place finish in Paris in the World Amateur Team Championship.

Ford and Greaser have helped lead the Tar Heels to three straight wins for the first time since 1984-85. UNC has won the Hogan Invitational, the Stephens Cup and the Williams Cup in the last 19 days.

Oklahoma’s Chris Gotterup won the Haskins in 2022.
