WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wake Forest Women’s golf team is just one stroke off the lead after the first 18 holes of the Landfall Tradition. The Deacs were second in the field with 19 birdies
Senior Rachel Kuehn led the team for the entirety of the day, jumping out to an early lead on the individual board. The Asheville native was five under par at the turn with a bogey-free first nine holes. A bogey on the par-five 11th was quickly regained with back-to-back birdies on the par-four 14th and 15th holes. Kuehn leads the 96-player field by one stroke heading into Saturday’s second round.
Graduate Emilia Migliaccio also sits inside the top 10 after the first 18 holes of play. After coming out of the turn at two under par, she birdied two of her final three holes of the day. She enters the second round in a tie for seventh at four under par.
Freshman Anne-Sterre den Dunnen is playing as an individual this week in her third appearance this fall. Two birdies and an eagle on her second nine helped her finish day one inside the top 15 in a tie for 12th.
With two bogeys on the front and two birdies on the back, sophomore Carolina Chacarra is sitting even par and tied for 30th heading into the second round. Senior Lauren Walsh got hot early with two birdies on her first nine holes but ended the day one over par and tied for 39th heading into the second round.
Second Round
Saturday’s second round will begin with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. Wake Forest will be going off the first tee in nine-minute intervals beginning at 10:09. The Deacs will be paired with San Jose State and Florida State. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
