The Washington men’s golf team brings the fall season to close next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 31-Nov. 1, at the inaugural Cal Poly Invitational, at The Preserve Golf Club in Carmel Valley, Calif.
The Huskies will play two rounds on the par-72, 7,138-yard course on Monday and the third round on Tuesday.
Simultaneously, three current UW golfers are competing in Chonburi, Thailand, at the 2022 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, at Amata Spring Country Club. Bo Peng (China), Taehoon Song (South Korea) and Teddy (Chuan-Tai) Lin (Chinese Taipei) are all competing there this weekend. Click this link for the full leaderboard for the Asia-Pacific Amateur.
“We go into this tournament with three of our regular starting five unavailable as they are playing at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship,” explained UW head coach Alan Murray. “We will miss Taehoon, Teddy and Bo. Losing 3 starters will weaken any team in the country, so that’s not ideal, but this provides a great opportunity for the rest of our guys to show what they are capable of.”
Washington will send the following lineup to Carmel:
1. Petr Hruby
2. Joshua Koo
3. Aidan O’Hagan
4. Patrick Hong
5. Robert Galligan
Individual: Justin Hopkins
“We are no different in that the guys who play well when they are in the lineup are going to tend to stay there,” Murray said, “so this could be a big week for Aidan, Patrick and Rob to state their case.
“Assistant coach Emerson Newsome will not be here as he gets married this weekend,” Murray noted, “so we are fortunate to have Scotty (Scott Alexander) step in to help coach the guys.
“I am really looking forward to seeing how we compete this week and deal with the challenges we have,” Murray concluded. “Pac-12s is a 6-count-5 format, so it’s a chance for a lot of guys to earn their way into the reckoning for that sixth spot and close the gap on our traditional top five. This is a new tournament and none of the teams have competed here before, so I am not sure anyone knows what to expect from a scoring aspect.”
The Cal Poly Invite wraps up the fall schedule. The next competition for the UW men will come at the Southwestern Invitational next Jan. 30-Feb. 1…
