Women’s Golf Wraps up Day 1 of Battle at the Beach

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico (October 28, 2022) – Rutgers women’s golf wrapped up play on day one of the Battle at the Beach tournament in Mexico on Friday afternoon.

As a team, the Scarlet Knights sit in 16th place, with Leigha Devine (t-25) and Nicole Ewing (t-46) leading the way on the individual leaderboard for RU.

Round One – Battle at the Beach
Club Campestre San Jose (Cabo San Lucas, Mexico)
Par 71 – 6,250 yards

Devine played a clean and consistent round, rolling in 14 pars on the day and picking up a birdie on the par-3 6th hole to help her shoot a 2-over 73 and lead the Scarlet Knights on the individual side.

Nicole Ewing was one stroke off her season-low score with a four-over 75. She birdied the 6th and 8th holes to propel her in the opening round.

“Today our team was put to the test on a great golf course,” head coach Kari Williams said. “Many holes require the ball to be put in specific landing zones and the greens have some significant contours. Leigha and Nicole put together solid rounds for us and tomorrow we need to clean up a few mistakes and be ready to compete.”

The Scarlet Knights will tee off for round two on Saturday with a shotgun start set for 10 a.m. ET.
