All Conference Teams Plus Hawai’i To Compete On Big Island
The Cal women’s golf team closes out the fall season this week when it competes at the Pac-12 Preview at Nanea Golf Club in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.
The tournament on the par 73, 6,449-yard course features all 11 conference teams that sponsor women’s golf along with host Hawai’i.
Sophomore Kaylyn Noh will make her Cal debut after transferring from Cal Poly, where last year she was named the Big West Player of the Year as a freshman.
“We’re really excited to see her tee it up for us,” Cal head coach Nancy McDaniel said. “She has a really competitive nature and having a different energy in the lineup can be helpful. We’re certainly welcoming her into the lineup and excited to see her play.”
After using the same lineup in every event so far this season, the Bears will have a slightly different look this week with the addition of Noh, who won Big West individual championship last season and the NCGA Women’s Amateur last summer.
The Pac-12 Preview is an annual event to wrap up the fall season, but nobody in the Bears’ lineup this week has competed in the tournament previously.
“It’s about bringing your best course management,” McDaniel said. “There’s definitely a learning curve, but our team prides itself on playing smart. There is different grass over at Nanea – how we handle that will be a challenge. The experience will help us build on our season.”
The Pac-12 features five teams currently ranked in the Golfstat Top 25 – including No. 1 Stanford, No. 6 Oregon, No. 13 Arizona, No. 19 USC and No. 22 Arizona State.
The Bears tee off for the first round Monday at 10:30 a.m. PT.
