Clemson, S.C—Andrew Swanson and Kian Rose both fired second-round scores of 68 to lead Clemson to a 286 team score and a third-place standing out of 20 teams after two rounds of the Ka’anapali Classic in Lahaina, Hawaii.   The tournament concludes on Sunday with the final 18 holes for all 20 teams.

Oklahoma, ranked 11th in the nation entering the tournament, holds a six-shot lead with a 546 team score through two rounds, six shots ahead of East Tennessee State and seven ahead of the Tigers, who stand at 15-under par 553 after Saturday’s round.    Scores were higher for all the teams, as the course played harder with higher winds and tougher pin placements.   The scoring average on Saturday was 72.6 on the par 71 course, above the 71.5 on Friday.

Swanson stands in second place in the individual race, just two shots out of the lead entering Sunday’s final round.  The sophomore from Bluffton, SC has scores of 64-68 for a 10-under-par score of 132, just two shots behind Nick Gabrelcik of North Florida.  Swanson had five birdies and just two bogeys on Saturday and played the last six holes in two under-par.  He has 12 birdies to lead the Clemson team.

Rose, Clemson’s leader in stroke average for the year, had a three-under-par 68 on Saturday after an opening round 69 and his five-under-par score of 137 is in a tie for 10th place.  He had six birdies, including five on the front nine on Saturday.   A double bogey on the 18th hole kept him from an even higher ranking after 36 holes.

Zack Gordon was Clemson’s third best player on Saturday with a three-over-par 74.   Combined with his opening round 69, he has a 143 score after two rounds, good enough for 50th place.  He also had five birdies on Saturday.

Jonathan Nielsen, Clemson’s best golfer over the last two tournaments, had a 76 on Saturday and also stands at one—over-par through two rounds with a 143 score.  He had two birdies on Saturday and played the last three holes in one-under-par.

Carter Pendley had a 77 on Saturday and was Clemson’s non-counter.   He stands at two-over-par 144 after two rounds, as he had an opening round 67.

Clemson individuals Justin Burroughs and Alberto Dominguez both had rounds of 74 on Saturday.
