Cougars head to Poppy Hills to wrap up the fall


PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. –  The Washington State men’s golf team will compete in its final tournament of the fall season as they head back to Northern California for the 2022 Saint Mary’s Invitational. The three-day tournament will begin Monday, Oct. 31, and conclude Wednesday, Nov. 2.

The Course and Format

The Saint Mary’s Invitational will be held at the Poppy Hills Golf Course, a par-71, 7,091-yard course in Pebble Beach, California. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will feature 18 holes on each day starting Monday, Oct. 31. Tee times are set for 8:20 a.m. each day with a shotgun start.

The Field

Along with Washington State, the field will include BYU, Colorado State, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Loyola Marymount, Nevada, Northern Illinois, Pacific, Sacramento State, University of San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UT Chattanooga, UT San Antonio, Santa Clara, and host Saint Mary’s.

“I would like to see another high-level performance. We know the golf course, some of the guys do at least. The field will be nice and the weather is supposed to be okay. I want to go out on a strong note. These guys have played really solid, consistent golf this fall.”

Last Time Out

The Cougars concluded the 2022 Visit Stockton Invitational in a tie for second place after carding 16-under; 836. Washington State’s 54-hole score of 836 matched the program’s fifth-lowest three-round score in school history and WSU’s score of 16-under-par at the 2022 Visit Stockton Invitational is the sixth-best 54-hole score vs. par in program history. Freshman Sam Renner nearly broke the Washington State men’s golf freshman record for the lowest three-round score, as the Bend, Oregon native carded 7-under; 206 to finish in a tie for eighth.
