The No. 11 USC women’s golf team, with one win in four starts this fall, completes the first-semester schedule with a return to the islands to compete in the Pac-12 Preview at the Nanea G.C. in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
The 12-team field includes the 11 Pac-12 teams that field women’s golf (all but Utah) as well as Hawaii.
Play opens with a shotgun start Monday on the par 73, 6,449-yard course at 7:30 a.m. HT . 10:30 a.m. PT. Results will be at golfstat.com.
USC won the tournament in the fall of 2013 at 15-under 861, led by Annie Park’s second-place finish at 7-under and a tie for third from Sophia Popov at 6-under.
Robynn Ree won the individual title in the fall of 2016 at 6-under 213. The since-transferred Katherine Muzi won for USC in 2021 while the Trojans took second.
Starting for the the fifth time in as many events will be sophomore Amari Avery, junior Brianna Navarrosa and freshman Catherine Park. Joining them will be senior Malia Nam and junior Christine Wang.
The Trojans will be without Xin (Cindy) Kou, who will be playing in the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship at the Siam Country Club in Pattaya, Thailand, Nov. 3-6.
The Trojans are led by fifth-year head coach Justin Silverstein and first-year assistant coach Tiffany Joh, the All-American first-teamer and LPGA star from UCLA now in her second year of collegiate coaching.
WINNING AT THE WINDY CITY
After a tough season-opener, USC came roaring back in its second event of the fall season, winning the Windy City Collegiate Classic on Oct. 4 by nine strokes while sophomore Amari Avery won her fourth career individual title by a stroke. It marked both USC’s third team and individual wins at the event. Avery won at 6-under 210 (67-69-74). Fellow sophomore Xin (Cindy) Kou tied for seventh at 3-over 219 (72-75-72).
THE TROJANS IN THE RANKINGS
Amari Avery is the No. 19-ranked golfer in the NCAA per golfweek.com while Xin (Cindy) Kou is No. 70 and Brianna Navarrosa is No. 72.
