Spartans Close Out Fall Campaign at Cal Poly Collegiate


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s men’s golf team closes out its Fall season on Monday (Oct. 31) and Tuesday (Nov. 1) playing in the Cal Poly Collegiate at The Preserve in Carmel, Calif.

The field of approximately 70 golfers will take part in the Collegiate-Amateur on Sunday, Oct. 30 followed by an 11:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun start on Monday.

The teams will play on the par-72, 7,041-yad course at The Preserve Golf Club, located in The Santa Lucia Preserve near Carmel Valley. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

Par/Yardage:  72 / 7,041

Format:  Stroke play, 54 holes, play five, count four

Schedule:  Sunday – Rounds 1 and 2 beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start

Monday: Round three with tee times starting at 8 a.m. off the first and 10th holes.

THE FIELD

The 13-team field includes eight teams ranked among the top-60 in the country by Golfstat – Oregon (No. 24), Washington, (No. 33), Ohio State (No. 36), Northwestern (No. 46), Marquette (No. 50), Michigan State (No. 53), Long Beach State (No. 55) and SMU (No. 59), along with Oregon State, USC, San Francisco, South Florida and host Cal Poly.

THE COURSE

The Preserve is a Tom Fazio-designed course considered one of the best in the Monterey Peninsula. Set within a 20,000-acre private nature preserve, the course includes a practice facility, multiple tee driving range, short game area, target greens and a wedge zone. It is open year-round to Preserve and National Members.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

Hackett, a transfer from UNCW, leads the Spartans with a 71.28 adjusted scoring average. He finished in second place at the Quail Valley Collegiate in mid-October, firing a program record 16-under par 200 and tied the best single round in program history at 8-under par 64.  Fifth year Troy Taylor II is second on the team with a 71.93 scoring average, while junior August Meekhof is third on the team at 72.73 and sophomore Ashton McCulloch carries a 73.07 average. Pierce Morrisey will be making his first appearance of the year for MSU and just the fourth of his career.
