Sugiyama and du Toit Post Top-15 Finishes at Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Purdue Women’s Golf wrapped up the fall season at the Landfall Tradition with a pair of Boilermakers earning Top-15 performances. Momo Sugiyama placed 12th, playing the Country Club of Landfall’s Dye Course 3-under (68-72-73—213) after 54 holes, while Danielle du Toit tied for 13th at 2-under (71-71-72—214).

Sugiyama led the 96-player field in par-5 scoring, playing the lengthy holes 6-under throughout the weekend. Her three-day total of 213 matched her lowest 54-hole score as a Boilermaker, and the Hawaii transfer paced Purdue for the fourth time in as many tournaments.

As a team, Purdue placed 10th in a competitive field of 18 teams. The Boilermakers finished 15-over (282-290-297—879), ahead of five teams ranked in Golfstat’s Top 50 as well as a pair of Big Ten opponents.

Du Toit’s even par 72 led the Boilermakers on the final day of competition. Shaking off a bogey on the opening hole, the South African played her final 11 holes 2-under with the help of three birdies. Getting back to level par, she cracked the Top 15 and produced her third straight round of par-or-better.

Sugiyama carded a final-round 73 (+1), finishing strong like du Toit after a rough start. She finally found a birdie at the par-5 18th, her 12th hole of the day. Heading back to the front side, Sugiyama birdied three of her final four holes to salvage the final round.

Daniela Ballesteros and Ashley Kozlowski both shot 76 (+4) to round out Purdue’s team score. The two Boilermakers made a pair of birdies apiece throughout Sunday’s round.

The Boilermakers closed the book on the fall and the year 2022, flipping the calendar to 2023 and returning to competition in February. Purdue begins the spring slate at the Tulane Classic in New Orleans (Feb. 12-14), the first of six tournaments preparing the Boilermakers for the Big Ten Championship and postseason play.
