Misemer Fires 66 For Wildcats On Opening Day in Hawai'i

KAILUA KONA, Hawai’I – Freshman Julia Misemer carded a blistering 66 to pace No. 13 Arizona Women’s Golf on the first day of the Pac-12 Preview. Her 66 put her in the prestigious company of Lorena Ochoa, Manon Gidali and Haley Moore to tie for the second-lowest round by a freshman in program history. Misemer is tied for the lead of the 60-player field and helped propel Arizona to third place at 12-under par for the day.

“We could not have asked for a better opening day than today,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “Julia was sensational all day and finished with one of the greatest rounds in program history. Our entire lineup was strong throughout the day, and I could not be happier with where we are heading into Tuesday. A strong opening day sets the stage for another great round of golf tomorrow, and I am looking forward to seeing us attack every hole with a great amount of confidence.”

Misemer’s 7-under performance tied Arizona State’s Ashley Menne atop the player leaderboard on Monday with the Wildcat freshman carding five of her seven birdies on the back nine holes. She and senior Gile Bite Starkute each sank an eagle on the front nine as well. Starkute finished her opening round at 3-under par and in a tie for ninth place. The sophomore tandem of Carolina Melgrati and Lilas Pinthier each shot 1-under and are tied for 17th.

Arizona began Monday’s round on the back nine and caught fire immediately. Sinking 14 birdies as a team to only eight total bogeys. The team had three players make birdie on the par-5 13th hole and the par-4 14th hole.

The Cats sit one stroke behind second-place Stanford and five shots back of Arizona State entering Tuesday’s second round. The three leading teams will play alongside one another, beginning on the front nine at 7:30 a.m. local time in Hawai’i.
