Amari Avery birdied six of her final eight holes and eight of her final 13 to fire a season-best 6-under 67 and jump into the top 10 to lead the USC women’s golf team during the final round of the Nanea Pac-12 Preview at the Nanea G.C. in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, on Wednesday (Nov. 2).

The Trojans, in their final round of the fall semester, finished sixth at 8-over 884 (296-297-291). Stanford won at 18-under.

Avery tied for seventh at 4-under 215 (73-75-67), her second top 7 of the fall and fourth top 14, all in her last four events.

She opened with bogeys on two of her first three holes but squared her round with birdies on 13 and 14. She got under par with a birdie on 18, birdied three in a row starting on 2 and then finished with two more on 6 and 7.

It was the fifth round in the 60s this fall for Avery, who now has 15 rounds in the 60s for her two-semester career, tied with Jennifer Song and Karen Chung on USC’s career list.

In fact, USC’s season-record for rounds in the 60s is 11, four less than Avery’s spring-fall start to her career.

Freshman Catherine Park tied for 17th at 2-over 221 (74-73-74), her second top 20 this fall and best finish in relation to par.

Junior Brianna Navarrosa tied for 21st at 4-over 223 (73-74-76), her fourth top 21 this fall.

Junior Christine Wang tied for 38th at 10-over 229 (77-75-77) and junior Michaela Morard, in her season debut, tied for 49th at 13-over 232 (76-82-74).

USC returns to action Feb. 12-14 at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes (Calif.) G.C.
