“Being named women’s player of the year for the second time is an absolute honor,” Devine said. “The CGA has given me so many opportunities to play and really provided an amazing environment for me to grow a player. Being in good company with the likes of Mary Weinstein and Jennifer Kupcho is a privilege and I hope to have the success that they have had.”
This past Summer, Devine won the CGA Match Play championship and finished as the runner-up in the CGA Stroke Play championship. She also qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur, where she became the first-ever Rutgers golfer to advance to the match play portion, where she advanced to the Round of 32. Her t-18 finish in the stroke play portion was also the best-ever finish for a Scarlet Knight.
“What an honor for Leigha to cap off the fall season. A leader for us on and off the course, Leigha is a relentless competitor and has worked tirelessly to elevate her game and our program,” head coach Kari Williams said. “Leigha’s play this season earned her an individual win, a runner-up finish, and helped guide us to our first team win since 2019. It has been a pleasure to witness her development and we are proud to celebrate Leigha’s success.”
This season for RU, Devine picked up the first collegiate victory of her career, finishing t-1 at the Badger Invitational in the first event of the season. She also posted a second-place finish at the Rocket Classic in October, giving her a pair of top-five finishes the team’s four fall tournaments.
Five of Devine’s 12 rounds this fall have been par or better and her current national ranking of 256 in over 100 spots higher that her final ranking of 360 last season.
Ranked 585th in the World Amateur golf Ranking, Devine’s scoring average this season of 72.92 is over two strokes lower than her tournament average as a junior (75.00).
