SALT LAKE CITY – Head Coach Garrett Clegg announced the addition of three student-athletes to the 2023 signing class for the University of Utah men’s golf program on Wednesday.

This group includes two international players, as well as the second California golfer to join the roster in the last two seasons.

“We’re excited to announce the addition of what we anticipate to be one of the top signing classes in our program’s history,” said Clegg. “We’re continuing a trend of being an international program and in the 2023 class, we’ll add two players from outside the U.S. in Gabriel Palacios from Guatemala and Sergio Jimenez from Spain. Our third member of the class is Luke Price, who comes to us from Northern California and will join the program in the fall of 2025.”

So far in 2022, Palacios has recorded first place finishes at the Central American Amateur Championship and the Toyota Junior Qualifier, posting scores of 1-under at both events. He also finished as the runner-up at the Copa Volcanes, shooting 16-under, and was 4-under at the World Amateur Team Championships.

“Gabriel is the top amateur golfer in his home country of Guatemala,” said Clegg. “He has had success competing all over the world in junior and amateur events and his resume is packed with international wins and high finishes. We expect him to make our team a lot better the moment he arrives on campus.”

Gabriel is the son of Miguel and Katya Palacios and has two siblings, Katerina and Miguel Jr.
