COLLEGE PARK, MD – Head coach Kelly Hovland announced a graduate transfer signee to join the Terrapins for the 2023-24 season.
Graduate transfer Virginia Bossi (Como, Italy) will join Hovland’s squad by way of the University of Virginia. Bossi, a 5-8, Foreign Affairs major at Virginia, comes to Maryland with three years of experience and a wealth of international experience representing Italy.
“We are excited to welcome Virginia into the Maryland Golf family,” said second-year head coach Kelly Hovland. “She is coming to College Park with elite experience in both college and amateur golf, and I look for her to impact our program immediately.”
Most recently, during the 2021-22 season, Bossi finished in seventh at the Windy City Collegiate before taking time off to recover from a shoulder injury in the spring 2022 and fall 2022 seasons. She was also named to the 2022 ACC Academic Honor Roll. Bossi is a two-time All-America Scholar by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (2020, 2021).
In her sophomore season in 2020-21, Bossi played in all eight tournaments for the Cavaliers, finishing 41st individually at the ACC Championships. She helped win a point in the ACC Championship match play semifinals vs. Duke. She placed 11th at Moon Golf Invitational, runner-up at The Match at Spring Creek, and ninth at Palmetto Intercollegiate. Bossi was named to the 2021 ACC Academic Honor Roll, All-ACC Academic team.
During her 2019-20, Bossi was the top-ranked player on the Virginia Cavaliers team with a stroke average of 73.00 while competing in all six events as a freshman. She placed 13th at the Tar Heel Invitational and helped lead Virginia to victory at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational. Bossi was named to the Virginia Sports Information Director’s All-State (first-team) squad and 2020 ACC Honor Roll.
The Como, Italy native has been ranked as high as 52nd on the World Amateur Golf Rankings. She placed fifth at the 2019 European Ladies’ Amateur Championships. She won the Gran Premio di Monticello Tournament and Italian Ladies Match Play Championship the same year. Bossi was also a part of Italy’s 2018 European Girls’ Team Championship team. She also has multiple top-10 finishes in her career.
