Looking to build on a historic fall season, Rutgers women’s golf announced the Spring 2023 schedule on Friday.
On the docket for the Scarlet Knights are six tournaments in total, culminating in the Big Ten Championships on Apr. 21 in Pittsburgh.
“We have a great schedule of tournaments coming up this spring,” head coach Kari Williams said. “It was our best fall season in program history, highlighted by Leigha and Rikke’s individual wins and our team victory, and we are looking to keep that momentum going. Everyone is working hard this offseason to prepare for these challenging golf courses and competitive fields.”
The fall season was a special one for Rutgers, as the team collected a pair of individual victories as well as a team title. Leigha Devine opened the year with an individual title at the Badger Invitational, setting an event record in the process. Just two tournaments later, the Scarlet Knights dominated the field to win the Rocket Classic by 13 strokes. Rikke Nordvik won the individual title, leading a group of three RU golfers finishing in the top three spots.
This spring, Rutgers kicks off its campaign with a return trip to the Tulane Classic in New Orleans at English Turn Golf & Country Club on Feb. 12. RU finished 14th out of 17 teams in the event last Spring, led by top-20 finished from Leigha Devine and Rikke Nordvik.
The Scarlet Knights then head west for the second event of the season in the Westbrook Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin in Peoria, Ariz. at Westbrook Village Golf Course from Feb. 26-27.
RU then makes the trip to Johns Island, S.C. for the Briar’s Creek Invitational, hosted by Charleston. The team will head back out west for the second time in the Spring for the Fresno State Classic from March 27-28. The final regular season event is the Lady Buckeye Invitational at the Ohio State Scarlet Course in Columbus, which will be April 15-16. RU returns to the event after finishing 9th out of 10 teams in 2022, with Rikke Nordvik finishing t-18th to pace the team.
The season will conclude at the Big Ten Championships on April 21-23. The event returns to Fox Chapel Country Club for the second straight year. Last season, the Scarlet Knights finished 11th out of 14 team, their best-ever finish at the conference tournament.
