Huskers Finish 1-2 at Big Ten Match Play


Jeremy Sisson fired a 70 (-2) on Saturday to lead the Huskers, but Nebraska dropped two of three matches at Big Ten Match Play in Palm Coast, Fla., at the Hammock Beach Resort.

After dropping his first matchup against Minnesota’s Harrison Arnold, Sisson picked up a 6&5 win against Rutgers’ Luke Wells before tying Penn State’s Jake Griffin on Saturday afternoon. He finished with a 1-1-1 record to pace the Big Red.  

After Friday mornings practice round against Michigan State, the Huskers dropped their first match to Minnesota 5-0. Evan McDermott, the true freshman from Spring Lake, Mich., lost a close matchup with Minnesota’s Jacob Pedersen, dropping a 1 up decision. McDermott bounced back and won a 3&2 decision over Rutgers’ Weston Jones on Saturday. 

Nebraska bounced back Saturday morning, handling Rutgers 4-1 in the morning match. Will Marshall won a 1 up decision over RU’s Rhett Sellers, and Reed Malleck picked up a 2&1 victory over Rutgers’ James Newton. 

In the Saturday afternoon match, Nebraska lost a close 3-0-2 decision to Penn State. Despite battling back and forth, Caleb Badura tied Penn State’s Jud Langille, and Reed Malleck lost a 2 up decision to PSU’s Jimmy Myers.
