Women's Golf Opens Spring Season at UCF Challenge


ORLANDO, Fla.  – The Penn State women’s golf team will head back down to the Sunshine State for the UCF Challenge beginning on Sunday morning. The three-day event will run through Tuesday afternoon.

All six Nittany Lions competing this weekend have familiarity with Eagle Creek following last year’s event and last weekend’s training trip. The course is a 6,379-yard, Par-72 that goes out in 35 and comes in at 37.

 

Sunday and Monday’s rounds will feature split tee times off holes one and 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m. while Tuesday’s final round will be an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start. Penn State will be paired with UNC Wilmington and North Florida in the opening round and will start on the 10 th hole with tee times beginning at 10:08 a.m.

OPPONENTS

  • Two additional Big Ten squads will join the Nittany Lions in the loaded 18-team field this week as Michigan State and Northwestern will tee it up.
  • The host Knights are then joined by Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Miami, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, North Florida, Iowa State, Kansas, Old Dominion, North Texas, Kent State, UNC Wilmington and College of Charleston.

THE TEAM

  • Penn State hasn’t made any changes to the lineup from the fall season as senior’s Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France), Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) and Isha Dhruva (Katy, Texas) are joined by sophomore classmates Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) and Michelle Cox (Allentown, Pa.) in the starting five while senior Taylor Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) will compete as an individual.
  • Delavallade paces the team with a 71.08 stroke average with eight of her 12 rounds in the fall being at par or better leading to her back-to-back top-3 finishes at the Cougar Classic and Nittany Lion Invitational.
  • Willis is second on the team with a 72.92 stroke average while Dhruva is at 74.11.
  • Willis was sidelined with an injury during last year’s UCF Challenge, but the remaining five players competed as Delavallade, Dhruva, Nienhaus and Waller were in the starting five and Cox played as an individual.
